Night of the Notables Through Zoom

Hello Parents and Guardians!

I'm really enjoying looking through the Night of the Notables slideshow presentations in our Google classroom! It looks like most of our students have gotten a good start on their presentations and some are finishing up.

These slideshow presentations are due on Friday. Next week, the students will have a chance to share their slideshows with a small group of students through Zoom.

Last week, I had a great time listening to students share their Fictional Narratives with their small groups through Zoom. I was very proud of the students who chose to read their stories, and we were all very entertained by the creative stories everyone had written.

The Night of the Notables presentations will be shared in a similar way. Students can either share their screen and go through their slideshow with the group, or I can share my screen with their slideshow as they talk through it.

These Night of the Notables Zoom calls will happen between 9:00 and 10:00 on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. I will be sending out the invites in the next couple of days. I will also be sending out a whole class Zoom invitation for next Thursday, our last day of school.

This week, we have a whole class Zoom on Thursday at 11am. I sent out an invitation to Thursday's Zoom call this morning.

Thanks for all your help at home, and let me know if you have any questions!

Night of the Notables Presentation

Hello Parents and Guardians!

As I was sending out the students' research papers yesterday, I was reminded of the fact that most of the kids did not have all of their research typed up before we had to leave school. Their research notes are stuck in the school building and I know it's going to take everyone a little longer to complete the Google slideshow presentation because they'll need to look up some facts in order to complete the slides.

After talking with the other third grade teachers, I have decided to extend the due date of the presentation to next Friday (May 15th).

As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for all you're doing to help from home!

Abbey

A Few Announcements

Hello Parents and Guardians!

As we near the end of this fifth week of online learning, I hope you and your families have fallen into somewhat of a rhythm.

I know this is not how any of us imagined we would be spending spring semester, but I appreciate all of you for helping us make the best of it.

I've heard from some students that they like working on one subject a day, and I've heard from others that they like working on a little of each subject each day. There is no right or wrong way to do it, just find a way that works for you! :)

Next week:

  • The district calendar has May 8th listed as a teacher work day, and this will remain in effect with remote learning. So next Friday, we will not have teacher office hours and the workload next week will be a little lighter to reflect a four day school week.
  • I have scheduled next week's Zoom calls and sent out invitations today.
  • We will be switching from Science to Social Studies on the learning board.

Just a reminder that each day it will be important that your child checks three things:

  • Email for announcements, Zoom invitations, and emails from friends
  • Google Classroom "Stream" for Tarver News

  • Google Classroom "Classwork" for Online Learning Board and Assignments
As always, email with any questions!

Next Week's Zoom Chats

Hello Parents and Guardians!

I just scheduled and sent out invitations for next week's Zoom meetings. Have your child check their email for the invitations. If they click "yes" on the invitation, I'll know that they've seen the invitation and that they plan to join us.

We had a day full of missed Zooms here at the Palte house today. Addison missed two meetings with Ms. Brewick and Emily missed her meeting with Mrs. Lawrence.

I understand the craziness of trying to juggle your own job along with your children's new schedules!

I told my girls I would set alarms on my phone for next week to help us remember their class and small group meet ups.

Crossing my fingers that next week goes a little smoother. It does seem like each week is getting a little easier.

Please reach out if there is anything that is causing stress. We're in this together!

Week Three Announcements

Hello Parents and Guardians!
Welcome to Week 3 of Remote Learning! Thank you to all of you who participated in the poll last week. I was able to gather some good data that will help me make things easier for all of us in the coming weeks.

I made a "Monday Announcements" video for the class and posted it in our Google Classroom yesterday. Please make sure your child watches this video for important updates and announcements. They will find the video under the "Classwork" tab at the top of the April 13-17 assignments.

It will be important that they check three things each day:
- Email (I will send invites to Zoom calls to their emails)
- Google Classroom "Stream" (Tarver Live will be posted here)
- Google Classroom "Classwork" (Start with the Monday Announcements video, then look at the Online Learning Board for the week to see what this week's assignments are)

As always, reach out with any questions.

Thanks,
Abbey

Week 2 Starts Tomorrow, and An Important Message from Mr. Trujillo

Hello Parents and Guardians!

Thank you for ALL of your help getting your kiddos started with online learning last week! This is definitely a team effort, and I appreciate your efforts in helping your kids get online, into their emails, and into our Google Classroom. I am hoping that we've ironed out some of the kinks, and that as the days go on, your child will become more and more independent in his/her work.

My goal is to have very little for you parents to do because I know you're all very busy!

The only new website your child will be accessing this week is Discovery Online for their science lesson. The login information is on the Online Learning board in our Google Classroom.

The Online Learning board looks a little different this week. I organized the board by days rather than subjects. I'm hoping this will help students see exactly what needs to be done each day and I'm hoping it will make things a bit easier for everyone.

There are Optional activities listed at the bottom of the learning board, so if your child is finishing quickly and would like more of a challenge, he/she can look there for instructions.

Please remember that we are expecting students to spend 60-90 minutes on academics each day. If an assignment is taking much longer than the suggested time that's listed on the learning board, please let me know so I have a better idea of how long these assignments are taking. If your child becomes frustrated or begins to cry, turn off the computer and walk away. Let me know so I can adjust things as needed. The most important thing for me is that none of this online learning negatively impacts family relationships. We are all under extra stress these days, and I don't want online learning to add to that stress for any of you.

As a reminder, the third grade office hours are: M, W, F 9:00-11:00 and T, Th 2:00-4:00. I will be at my computer during those hours, ready to answer emails so you are guaranteed an answer if you email during those hours. However, I will be checking in throughout the day and will try to get back to you as quickly as possible. If you would find it helpful to have a Zoom conference at any time, I am happy to set one up, just let me know.

Lastly, Mr. Trujillo put together a great video to end our first week of online learning, and I'd love to have you watch it here.

As always, email me with any questions, and let's make it a great week!

First Day of Remote Learning: Tomorrow!

Hello Parents and Guardians!

As we embark on this online learning journey together we wanted to take a few moments to share some of the Tarver 3rd Grade specifics before we begin. We know this document has a lot of information in it, but please read it carefully as it will answer many of your questions. It will be a great resource as we move forward as well.

Work Expectations:

Adams 12 has sent out work expectations in previous emails. We wanted to take a moment to touch on what we believe are the most important points:

  • Students will be expected to do between 60 and 90 minutes of work each day.
  • A week's worth of work will be posted to your child's Google Classroom account each Monday (specific directions for this down below).
  • It is up to you and your child how and when it is completed each week.
  • Attendance will be based on the completion of work. Attendance will be taken on Fridays.
  • Work is not optional, and should be completed each week.

Office Hours:

During this time, teachers will be actively checking email and will respond to you as quickly as possible. This is going to be the best time to ask all questions regarding content. If you email during non-office hours, teachers will get back to you within 24 hours.

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 9:00-11:00
  • Tuesday, Thursday: 2:00-4:00

Google Classroom:

This will be the main platform from which students will be able to access their work. Your child has logged into Google Classroom many times this year and should be able to do so from home with little difficulty. All students who attended school on Friday, March 13th came home with their log-in information. If your child did not attend school this day, please contact your child's teacher for login information.

  • Steps to log in:

Tarver Website and Other Resources:

Teachers ill be updating their page on the Tarver Website frequently. This is going to be the best place to get updates. Students can continue to work on websites like Freckle and Epic to their benefit, however this work will not count towards their attendance or grades. Only work completed in Google Classroom will be counted and graded.

A Few Disclaimers:

  • We are all new to this, please have grace and patience through this process as we all learn together.
  • Teachers are not trained in technology. If you are having trouble logging in to any of the platforms, please contact the district's IT department directly at: 720-972-4120, or email to FamilyTechSupport@adams12.org
  • You know your child best! Teachers will do their best to meet the needs of all students, however your child will need your support too. Please feel free to assist your child as you see fit.
  • Please, please, please do not let at hone school work damage a child/parent relationship! Please notify your child's teacher if struggles occur. We want to help!
  • Communication is key! Please keep us in the loop and ask us questions during office hours.
Thank you and please contact us with any questions!
