First Day of Remote Learning: Tomorrow!

Hello Parents and Guardians!

As we embark on this online learning journey together we wanted to take a few moments to share some of the Tarver 3rd Grade specifics before we begin. We know this document has a lot of information in it, but please read it carefully as it will answer many of your questions. It will be a great resource as we move forward as well.

Work Expectations:

Adams 12 has sent out work expectations in previous emails. We wanted to take a moment to touch on what we believe are the most important points:

  • Students will be expected to do between 60 and 90 minutes of work each day.
  • A week's worth of work will be posted to your child's Google Classroom account each Monday (specific directions for this down below).
  • It is up to you and your child how and when it is completed each week.
  • Attendance will be based on the completion of work. Attendance will be taken on Fridays.
  • Work is not optional, and should be completed each week.

Office Hours:

During this time, teachers will be actively checking email and will respond to you as quickly as possible. This is going to be the best time to ask all questions regarding content. If you email during non-office hours, teachers will get back to you within 24 hours.

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 9:00-11:00
  • Tuesday, Thursday: 2:00-4:00

Google Classroom:

This will be the main platform from which students will be able to access their work. Your child has logged into Google Classroom many times this year and should be able to do so from home with little difficulty. All students who attended school on Friday, March 13th came home with their log-in information. If your child did not attend school this day, please contact your child's teacher for login information.

  • Steps to log in:

Tarver Website and Other Resources:

Teachers ill be updating their page on the Tarver Website frequently. This is going to be the best place to get updates. Students can continue to work on websites like Freckle and Epic to their benefit, however this work will not count towards their attendance or grades. Only work completed in Google Classroom will be counted and graded.

A Few Disclaimers:

  • We are all new to this, please have grace and patience through this process as we all learn together.
  • Teachers are not trained in technology. If you are having trouble logging in to any of the platforms, please contact the district's IT department directly at: 720-972-4120, or email to FamilyTechSupport@adams12.org
  • You know your child best! Teachers will do their best to meet the needs of all students, however your child will need your support too. Please feel free to assist your child as you see fit.
  • Please, please, please do not let at hone school work damage a child/parent relationship! Please notify your child's teacher if struggles occur. We want to help!
  • Communication is key! Please keep us in the loop and ask us questions during office hours.
Thank you and please contact us with any questions!

Technology Check In

Hello Third Grade Families!
I've heard from several students through email, which has brought such a big smile to my face! I love reading your emails!

I want to make sure everyone has had a chance to practice logging in to our Google Classroom and I want to make sure all students are able to check email before we begin our online learning on Wednesday.

Students, please help me know that you all have had a chance to check your email by sending me an email at abbey.c.palte@adams12.org

Also, check out our Google Classroom for a fun assignment from me. I will be able to see that you've completed the assignment, and that will help me know that you were able to access the classroom from your home.

In order to access your district email and our Google Classroom, click on this link: http://www.googleapps.adams12.org/

On the right side of the screen, you will see a list of apps. The top one says "GMail" this is where you'll click to access your district email. The fourth one says "Classroom" this is where you'll click to access our Google Classroom.

If you are having a hard time logging into these apps, please email the district IT department for help at familytechsupport@adams12.org

Thanks for your patience and understanding as we figure this out!

Emails to Kids

Hi Third Grade Families!
I wrote emails to all of the students in Room N today. Having them write back to me would be a great opportunity to practice their typing and writing skills!
If you are able to help them check their district email, that would be great!
Simply go to: http://www.googleapps.adams12.org/
Students will log in to their email by clicking on ¨Gmail¨ on the right side of the screen. Their login is their district email (if they don´t know what this is, please email me and I will send it to you) and their password is Tigers88.
Iĺl look forward to reading some great emails! :)
Thanks,
Abbey Palte

Extended Spring Break Resources

Hello Third Grade Families,
I hope this post finds you healthy as we experience this extended spring break.

The District will be giving updates through this website as time goes on: https://www.adams12.org/health-services/community-letters-resources

On Friday, your child should have come home with a "Learning Activities for No School Days" flyer. If you would like to access a digital version of the flyer, your child can log in to our Google Classroom by clicking on this link and then finding "Classroom" in the list of apps on the right side of the screen.

The District has also published a list of learning resources here

As a parent of elementary-aged kids myself, I found this article written by Social Worker Liz Faria to be very helpful. She talks a lot about the importance of routine and predictability for kiddos.

After seeing various COVID-19 Daily Schedules on social media, I decided to come up with one that would fit the needs of our family. Today was our first day with the schedule. My girls were very excited to see the schedule and our day has gone fairly smoothly as we've used it to guide our day.

Our schedule is up where we can all see it, and the girls have enjoyed referring to it often to see what's coming next. I'm hoping that it will help keep us running smoothly and enjoying each other's company in the coming days.

Your third graders are used to having a reliable schedule in the classroom, and I know that several of them really pay close attention to it because they let me know the minute we've gone overtime! 😜

If you've been thinking about coming up with a schedule and you'd find it helpful to have an outline, feel free to click here to access the document with our schedule. You can make a copy of the document and change it to fit your needs. (Click "File" and "Make a copy")

I did have to make it very clear to my kids that this is a FLEXIBLE schedule and that the times may not always be exact and things may come up that make it so we need to switch things around. But it's helpful to have a general idea of what the day will look like.

I will be checking my school email throughout this extended break, so please feel free to reach out with any questions!

Thanks,
Abbey

CMAS Dates and Snack Sign Up

Hello Families!
At conferences, I gave you the dates that we had planned for CMAS. There have been a couple of tweaks to the schedule since that time.

The new CMAS schedule is:

ELA (English Language Arts)

Monday 3/16, Tuesday 3/17, Wednesday 3/18

Math

Wednesday 4/1, Thursday 4/2, Friday 4/3

We ask that you avoid scheduling appointments on testing days. Also, please make sure your child gets plenty of sleep the night before testing days and he/she has a good breakfast on testing days. We will be testing first thing each morning, so please make sure your child arrives on time.

Also, we will be providing healthy snacks to the students each morning before testing begins. If you would be willing to help out by signing up for a snack to bring in, please click on the sign up genius link here to sign up for a snack.

Thank you so very much!
